Synopsis

When creating our 2 minute introduction, we had the idea of forming an ambiguity around who the killer and who the victim was – our unique selling point, the ‘big twist’ which breaks the conventions of the thriller genre. We almost settled for the horror genre, but our questionnaire helped us in this respect, aiding us to link the movie to our audience more effectively, and make a final decision on which genre to utilize. However we did not have the idea of a big twist from the beginning, at first deciding that Adam would kill Liv; but we believed we could cause a bigger shock if Liv suddenly spun around at the last second and shot Adam. The target audience was middle aged, because we figured the age group was the most suitable to aim the movie towards – additionally, we did not include gore because the questionnaire proved that the people we asked did not like blood. The two films we based our 2 minutes on were Psycho because of the anonymity of the killer and the gender of the victim, and Scream because of the unique costume of the killer and the sense of vulnerability about the victim, as well as the setting, which was in the victim’s own home. We based our main characters on those of the two movies we chose for inspiration, as well as our location; we chose Adam for the killer, Liv for the victim, and had to include Oli as a last minute resort because Bruce did not fit the profile and build of the stalker at the end of our 2 minute introduction. We used Adam’s house as the location because the layout of the hall, living room and drive fitted what we required. We also decided to start the movie inside the house and end the introduction outside, because we wanted to create the atmosphere that nowhere is safe, and we chose the lighting relating to this aspect, making the inside of the house appear darker than the outside. The victim exits the house at the end of the introduction, making the audience wonder if she has escaped the danger, however we included a third character that cocked a gun and pursued Liv down the road.
